Presently, the Law School of Tanzania offers two programmes, namely; Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice and Basic Technician Certificate in Paralelgal Work.  The Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice is a one-year practical legal training programme, which is compulsory for any law graduate aspiring to be enrolled as an advocate of the High Court of Tanzania. The programme is divided into two semesters. The First Semester covers classroom instruction for up to twelve weeks while the Second Semester involves a period of clinical law (field placement) followed by final written and oral examinations. Successful candidates are awarded the Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. The Basic Technician Certificate in Paralelgal Work programme is a one year programme accreditted by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET). The programme is designed to provide relevant knowledge and skills that graduates of paralegal work should possess. The programme aims to train selected candidates to become paralegals who can provide basic legal support to the community to access justice. Graduates of the programme can also join Diploma programme in paralegal work or law diploma programmes.

Training at the School is interactive and the training philosophy is learning by doing in which students learn various skills and techniques of legal professionals by performing the various tasks a practicing professional would perform in real world. Andragogy is constantly employed as is consonance with adult learning to invoke learner's prior experience, readiness to learn, orientation to learning, and motivation to learn.

The techniques that are used in training include: case studies, seminar tasks/workshops, moot courts, role plays, mock trials, demonstrations, group works, assignments, Portfolios, site visits, study tours, presentations, simulations, drama episodes and reflection, feedbacks and field placement.

Students’ class activities form part of the overall performance in a given module / course. This enables students to compile their cumulative works in special files (Portfolio) on a continuous basis to the end of the Module with routine inspection and advise from mentors. This approach is aimed to gradually build the students professional skills and competencies that meet the ever-increasing demand for quality legal skills and services at national and international planes.
