Aristarik Maro Resume
Maro lectures Library & Information Science (LIS) at the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), information processing, documentation, information technology and its application, information storage and retrieval at Tumaini University Dar es Salaam College (TUDARCO) and Basic Leadership, Management and Accounting for Lawyers at the Law School of Tanzania to date. At OUT, Mr. Maro apart from lecturing, he led reader and technical department charged with reference service provision, collection development, indexing, abstracting, classifying and cataloguing of information materials and also a member of Sida and World Bank Library projects. He worked for several years with the Inter University Council for East Africa (IUCEA), Kampala - Uganda from 2009 to 2015 as Information and Communication Officer of the Lake Victoria Research Initiative programme where he concentrated mainly on information, communication and dissemination of research findings in the East African Community partner states.
Maro’s professional exposure as information and communication specialist includes participation in various exhibitions over more than ten years, including those organized within the EAC’s partner states. Organizing field and outreach programs for the council also enhanced his experience on social, cultural, political and economic lives of the people in the region. His passion to work in the international organization has revealed him to the understanding and knowledge of the relationship and diplomacy between the east African states. He also participated in the 2016 Creative Commons Global Summit in Seoul, South Korea as Tanzania Creative Commons Public Lead Affiliate. Under Creative Commons Tanzania, Mr. Maro performs his leadership & managerial roles as a Public Lead managing more than 40 young, focused and enthusiastic volunteers across the country. All duties are on voluntary basis. As a researcher, he has published few peer-reviewed articles and delivered conference papers. His master’s work focused on information literacy skills programme. In the past, he served as the Coordinator for Library & Information Management programmes at the Open University of Tanzania where he developed Bachelor & Masters degree curricular for Library & Information Management; the programmes that are being offered in the university to date.
Currently, he works as the head of library services at the Law School of Tanzania in-charge of library and information services of the school. Maintaining a keen interest in library and information science training in the country, Mr. Maro, serves on the board of the Tanzania Library Association (TLA) as a Secretary of Education, Ethics and professionalism department. Apparently he is an active member of National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTE) Team for LIS Education in the country and has participated in several LIS curricula development & Reviews at different levels. He serves as Public Lead of Creative Commons Tanzania Affiliate team, responsible for creating awareness and advocating for open access policy in the country. He is also a member of the Consortium of Tanzania University and Research Libraries (COTUL) responsible in negotiating on the purchase of online resources from different international organization in the world. He is interested in ICT application in library and information service delivery.
